What Microsoft Clarity is
Microsoft Clarity is a free behaviour analytics tool: heatmaps from real visitors, session recordings, rage click and dead click detection, and more recently AI summaries and predictive heatmaps, all funded by Microsoft rather than a subscription.
EyeCaptain is an AI CRO audit. You give it a URL; it reads your site to learn what you sell and to whom, captures the page on desktop and mobile, measures what pulls attention and what competes with your call to action, and returns a report with the fixes in the order to make them. No script, no traffic needed. The table below compares the two on the questions buyers actually ask.

What Microsoft Clarity does well
- It is free with no session cap, which makes it the default first analytics tool for most small sites.
- Rage clicks, dead clicks and quick-backs are excellent symptom detectors.
- Recordings plus GA4 integration give a complete picture of a live funnel over time.
Where EyeCaptain is different
- Clarity needs a script and traffic; EyeCaptain needs a URL. A new landing page, a staging build or a competitor's page can be audited before a single visitor arrives.
- Clarity shows you a dead click; EyeCaptain tells you the element looks clickable because of its contrast and shape, and what to change so it either works or stops looking like a button.
- Clarity is analytics. EyeCaptain is an audit: a judged verdict on clarity, trust, friction and persuasion with the fixes in order.
Which one should you use?
Choose Microsoft Clarity if
- You want free, always-on behaviour data on a live site.
- You need recordings to reproduce a bug or a confusing step.
Choose EyeCaptain if
- You want to know what to change before you launch or before you spend on ads.
- You need a deliverable: a report with a heatmap, findings and ranked fixes, branded for a client.
- You want to compare against competitors.
Verdict
Install Clarity on every site you own; it costs nothing and catches symptoms. Use EyeCaptain when you need the diagnosis and the prescription, or when there is no traffic to observe yet.
